Broken Frontier

Every war has casualties and the climactic battle in the previous issue has left both Sara and Dani lying on the ground.  What will happen next...?

When last we found Dani and Sara locked in battle, Sara was fiercely and deadly pinned down by a lighting spear. This climax to the battle the readers had been waiting for ever since writer Ron Marz went public with his plan is momentous. Yet both the battle and the climax were obvious. Readers knew what was going to happen.

But this tale is not of the battle of the Witchblades. No, this is a battle for the future of the Witchblade. And adding that detail you immediately see that it is a story about people, about players, about setting stages and creating and inventing machinations that will NEVER spin out of control. And whose fault is that exactly? We can blame the writer for that, of course. Ron works miracles adding layer upon layer to every single character he lays his words/hands on.

What he did with this issue is pure drama. We all knew that the Witchblade would heal Sara, but I bet not one reader would have thought the battle would not carry on in this issue. Ron made the characters talk all the way. He especially made a big effort to masterplan his way around the phrase "divide and conquer" while creating an Angelus-lieutenant that we surely haven't seen the last of yet.

I personally cannot wait for the new Angelus and I am sure that it will be as intresting as the triple-variant cover to the next issue of this epic showdown.

The artwork by Croation artist Stjepan Sejic is stunning. The angles his 'camera' takes show that he's a master storyteller. His action shots are wide-angled and let us see all players involved in all their merit. Stjepan's faces match the beautifull digital techniques he developed for armour, hair and feathered wings.
