London’s Cartoon Museum played host to the Tripwire Awards last night (Wednesday, September 20th) and Broken Frontier were there to pick up the 2023 Award for Best Comics-Related Website/Publication. A tremendous honour for our small but hard-working team. A special thank yo to the 25 team members who have written for BF since I became the site’s new owner in 2017. Ally, Bruno, Conori, Edie, Holly, Jason, Jenny, John, Jon, Karen, Lindsay, Matthew, Moe, Nick, Nick, Paul, Pete, Rebecca, Robin, Simon, Tom, Tom, Tony, Tony and Tyler… we couldn’t have forged ahead with our evolving direction and ethos without your commitment and dedication over the years, both on the site and off it as part of our wider community endeavours.
And also, as ever, thanks to BF founder Frederik for giving me his baby and trusting it to my vision for what comics commentary could and in some cases should be.

Indie comics is such a diverse and vibrant scene right now and we’re so pleased that this tiny site’s mission to explore the widest potential of the form, to actively champion deserving emerging artists in comics, to work tirelessly to promote comics community, and to prioritise socially conscious work and marginalised voices wherever possible, has clearly resonated with so many of you in this public vote. Final thanks to the Tripwire team for nominating us and for everyone who voted and believe in what we do.
Here’s the Tripwire Awards press release with a list of all the winners and nominees.
In front of an industry audience at London’s prestigious Cartoon Museum, Tripwire’s editor-in-chief Joel Meadows and senior editor Andrew Colman announced the winners of this year’s Tripwire Awards.
“For a fifth year running, we have selected a range of nominees that reflects the breadth and range of the comics industry in the UK and US. We are excited as ever to be putting something back into the industry that has supported us for over thirty years now,” Tripwire’s editor-in-chief Meadows said.
Here’s a list of the nominees and winners in bold:
