10 YEARS OF THE BF SIX TO WATCH! In the tenth year of our ‘Six Creators to Watch’ mentorship programme we’re determined to spotlight as many new achievements of our many intakes of talented artists as possible and today we have some epic news. Our 2021 Six to Watch-er Mereida Fajardo has been longlisted in the World Illustration Awards for her comic Zayani Zam, a project that was also shortlisted last year for the First Graphic Novel Competition. She joins fellow Six to Watch artists Olivia Sullivan (2019) and Alxndra Cook (2023) in being recognised by the WIA.
Presented in environment-capturing landscape format Zayani Zam, a story of isolated drivers on the Mongolian Coal Road, was reviewed here last year at Broken Frontier when I bluntly (and very accurately) described Mereida as “inarguably one of the most exciting current voices in UK comics. I cannot reiterate that point enough.” Congrats to this hugely talented comics voice, and don’t forget you can browse a full archive of coverage of her work here at BF.
