Press release
In The Legend of Bold Riley we saw Rilavashana SanParite, called Bold Riley, abdicate her right to the throne to venture forth and explore the mysteries of The Coin, woo some ladies and kill some monsters along the way. That first volume—illustrated by an array of talented artists—netted writer/creator Leia Weathington the Best Writer award at the 2013 Stumptown Comics Fest. The book has gotten favorable reviews from Curve Magazine, Okazu, the San Francisco Book Review, and many others, as well as a hearty recommendation from industry icon Gail Simone.
Now our hero continues her journey in a new collection of stories: Bold Riley: Unspun. Riley trudges South, lost in her grief after the end of her last adventure, without any sense of purpose. But with witches on the moors, hungry spirits haunting forest pools, and trouble brewing in the fabulous desert city state of Kabumzala, Bold Riley won’t have much time for self pity…
The Legend of Bold Riley series is published by Northwest Press, a graphic novel and comics publisher based in Seattle that celebrates LGBT characters and creators. Bold Riley was conceived to take a break from the narrative of the straight, white male in fantasy and create an escapist playground for the rest of us.
This second series is written by creator Leia Weathington and illustrated by a new line up of talented artists. The stories in the second volume are illustrated by Jonathon Dalton (Lords of Death and Life, Mad Tea Party), Zack Giallongo (Broxo), and Joanna Estep (Thrilling Adventure Hour, Fraggles) as well as cover artwork and pinups by the likes of Brittney Sabo, Terry Blas, Genue Revuelta, Steve Lieber, Sloane Leong and Ekari.
The Kickstarter campaign for Bold Riley: Unspun has been launched to pay the creative team the money they deserve for all of their tireless work; all pledges go toward paying the artists. With rewards that include print and digital copies of books, original artwork and merchandise and other unique items, readers can support the creation of a beloved series and have those adventures delivered to their door as they are released.
