SAFARI FESTIVAL FORTNIGHT!
It’s always exciting when international publishers with an ethos that you especially respect and admire make a rare festival visit to the UK. The inclusion of the ever experimental Minneapolis outfit 2dcloud on the exhibitor line-up at this year’s Safari Festival is a particular thrill for this lover of alt comics.
Over the years here at BF we’ve looked at a number of their books from Anna Bongiovanni’s “evocative and disquieting” Out of Hollow Water to MariNaomi’s “acutely observed” Dragon’s Breath and Other True Stories through to the “unique creative voice” on show in Austin English’s Gulag Casual.
Expect more 2dcloud review coverage coming into Safari. But to whet your appetite for the big day we’ll also be running some preview pages beforehand. Starting today with Kindling by Xia Gordon and Architecture of an Atom by Juliacks …
Don’t forget you can also back the Kickstarter for 2dcloud’s Summer collection of books here.
Kindling by Xia Gordon
Publisher description: Hazy, gesture rich lines explore ideas on love, altruism, and self-sacrifice. Abstract and expressive, visceral and affective, elusive and palpable. A letter to the universe and to oneself: LOVE!
You can find out more about Xia Gordon’s work on her website here.
Architecture of an Atom by Juliacks
Publisher description: With Architecture of an Atom, internationally recognized multi-disciplinary artist Juliacks brings her trans-media project to the print realm. Characterized by critics as a member of the immersive school of cartooning, she has sought to trouble the boundaries between fine art and comics throughout her career. A socially conscious, layered work in every sense of the word.
