It’s time for our last Gosh! Comics and Broken Frontier Drink and Draw of the year on Tuesday November 21st as we’re joined for the final festivities of the year by Shane Melisse, Matthew Pettit and Lucia Soto.
We’re once again at our current home, upstairs in the Coach and Horses pub on Great Marlborough Street. Your co-hosts for the night are myself (Broken Frontier Editor-in-Chief Andy Oliver) and Gosh’s very own Nora Goldberg. The evening begins at 6.30pm at Gosh on Berwick Street before we head off for our sketching and drinking antics at 7pm. Don’t forget you can join the official Facebook event here.
Shane Melisse is part of the Backwards Burd collective who have featured on BF over the years with anthologies like F*ck You! Kitty Jenkins. He has self-published a number of his own titles including the graphic medicine offering Joel and Pickles and Chips. His most recent comic is The Knight.
I first discovered the work of Matthew Pettit amongst the offerings from Jazz Dad Books in his Kevin Truman minicomic. Matthew has self-published two issues of his anthology comic Wax (you can see samples pages of #1 here at BF) and last summer his The Fields Beyond Episode 1 (below) was one of my picks of the Safari Festival debuts. I described it here at BF as “an unnervingly cyclical tale from a creator with an unyielding eye for the idiosyncratic and the uncanny.
And, finally, we have illustrator Lucia Soto whose self-published zines include 21 Things You Could Be Doing Now (“a funny take on how we sometimes idealise the past with romantic notions from novels and black and white films”) and Home Away from Home exploring themes on the definition of home.
If you can’t make the night we’ll be tweeting the drawing themes with the hashtag #GoshBFDD for those who want to join in online!
Join us on Tuesday November 21st, then, for another fun evening of drinking, drawing and comics camaraderie. We kick off at 6.30pm in Gosh with a chance to get hold of signed comics and books from all our featured creators before moving over to the The Coach and Horses for 7. We look forward to seeing you then!
