We’re squeezing in a Thought Bubble Special Edition of our Gosh! Comics and Broken Frontier Drink and Draw this week! And we have an ace double bill of TB talent on Thursday September 20th as Ben Sears and Kels Choo join us for our regular monthly meet-up, sponsored by Cass Art.
You can find us upstairs in The King’s Arms on Poland Street and your co-hosts for the night are myself (Broken Frontier Editor-in-Chief Andy Oliver) and Gosh’s very own Nora Goldberg. The fun begins at 6.30pm at Gosh! on Berwick Street before we head off for our sketching and drinking antics at 7pm. Don’t forget you can join the official Facebook event here.
A quick intro to this month’s artists…
Ben Sears’ all-ages Double + stories featuring Plus Man and his robot pal Hank first appeared on the Study Group Comics blog a few years back and have gone on to three releases from acclaimed indie publisher Koyama Press. These include Night Air, Volcano Trash and The Ideal Copy, the latter of which was reviewed at Broken Frontier by our very own Tom Baker here.
Tom said of that release “I’m loathe to pull apart the seams of The Ideal Copy too much, because reading any Double + adventure is so much fun, a rip-roaring rib-tickling romp I don’t want to spoil for anyone. Just know that it’s an immense amount of fun, imaginative, inventive, genuinely laugh-out-loud funny, and substantial with it.”
Kels Choo will also be at Thought Bubble with her zines and minicomics offerings including Wallflower, Spooks, Fluffy, Third Sight, Happy Home and Windows. She’ll also have a limited quantity of the Group Chat anthology at the show which she contributed ‘The Coven of Wellington Woods’ to. You can enjoy a huge preview of her work here at Broken Frontier today. And below we have also have teaser samplers from her story ‘Oni Girl’ from Inuyasha fan zine, Sit Boy! A Feudal Fan Zine, collected by Ashley R. Franklin and Andrea Bell.
Join us on Thursday September 20th, then, for another fun evening of drinking, drawing and comics camaraderie. We kick off at 6.30pm in Gosh with a chance to get hold of signed comics and books from all our featured creators before moving over to The King’s Arms for 7. We look forward to seeing you then!
The Facebook event page for the night is here.
