A quick reminder that this Saturday 20th April sees the return of the Comica Festival Comiket – the essential twice-yearly marketplace showcasing self-published comics, the small press and Indiecentric British publishers like Blank Slate, Myriad, Nobrow Press, Jonathan Cape, Knockabout and SelfMadeHero. This time round the fair moves to a new locale at London’s Central Saint Martins and includes the ever popular Drawing Parade, this year with the likes of Gary Northfield (Derek the Sheep), Oliver East (Trains are… Mint), Warren & Gary Pleece (The Great Unwashed), Frazer Irving (Batman), Darryl Cunningham (Science Tales) and Neill Cameron (Mo-Bot High) all taking part.
Full details on the venue and how to get there are available on the Comica Festival site here with a list of exhibitors here. And there’s more on Facebook here. If you really need any persuading as to why this is an unmissable opportunity to explore the true diversity of the British comic scene then read my thoughts on the November 2011 Comiket written as part of my ‘Small Pressganged’ column at Broken Frontier. And here’s another ‘Small Pressganged’ report on the April 2012 Comiket highlighting some of the gems of small press comics I discovered at that event!
