In conjunction with the launch of the expansion of the Amazon Appstore, comiXology, the revolutionary digital comics platform, has expanded their application to new markets today. In addition, comiXology has partnered with DC Entertainment to make its monthly periodical comic books available through comiXology’s Kindle Fire and Kindle Fire HD apps, which will now also be distributed in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the UK and the US.
ComiXology’s Kindle Fire and Kindle Fire HD apps include over 35,000 titles, offering the largest selection of digital comics and graphic novels for readers of all types.
ComiXology’s Kindle Fire and Kindle Fire HD apps also include all the features that fans have come to know and love about comiXology including comiXology’s innovative shopping experience and immersive reading experience driven by their patent pending Guided View™ reading technology.
“We’re ecstatic to continue to evolve our selection of comiXology’s offerings to new markets with Amazon’s expansion to the EU,” said comiXology co-founder and CEO David Steinberger. “Our vision is to bring comics to everyone, everywhere and this rollout by Amazon helps us make that vision one step closer to reality. We’re also pleased as part of this debut to add the DC Entertainment catalog to our Kindle Fire app not only as part of the EU platform, but also in the US as well.”
In April Amazon announced its continued global expansion of its Appstore by calling on developers to submit apps for distribution in nearly 200 countries, including Australia, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, India, South Africa, South Korea, and even Papua New Guinea and Vatican City.
ComiXology has always had a strong international customer base, and in Q1 of this year, launched ComiXology Europe, a division of the company focused on the expansion of international local language comics and graphic novels.
In late 2011, digital comic fans saw comiXology add Amazon’s Kindle Fire for U.S. to the platform – with the comiXology app coming pre-installed in the U.S. when the Kindle Fire launched that November. In addition to the Kindle Fire, the comiXology platform is available across iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows 8 and the Web at www.comixology.com.
