The books featured in Fieldmouse Press’ Winter 2025 season are:
Soften the Blow by Bread Tarleton: This graphic novel focuses on Audrey Morris, a trans woman who was once a popular professional wrestler. Transphobic management and a horrible in-ring accident drove her from the sport. Now sequestered in a small town, she struggles with her identity, body dysmorphia, addiction, and isolation in a series of surreal, interior vignettes. Can she find self-acceptance and community in the face of her own trauma?
The Ardent by Carl Antonowicz: This stunning book is a bleak but hilarious subversion of standard fantasy quest comics. In a medieval fantasy setting, a young monk is tasked by the head of his order to move the jewel-encrusted skeleton of one of their martyrs to safety. His faith is tested in a journey where the concepts of honor, family, and piety are laid bare.
Totality by Jeff Lok: This is a story of the American Dream laid bare as a malignant myth. Lok details moving across the country during the solar eclipse to the promise of a job and everything he ever thought he wanted in Portland. What does he do when it all crumbles? Totality is a dark, surreal, and hilarious account of a damaged person in a fractured country.
Ambiguous Blu by Noah Schiatti: Blu is skipping school again, and no one seems to notice. Forcing the world into the confines of a computer screen, Blu’s identity keeps getting lost in the static. Their connection to others is fading. Blu is falling apart.
Souvenir by Sara Jewell: In this deeply intimate collection, Sara Jewell searches for meaning in a chaotic past, embracing grief while daring to move through it. In a dizzying array of colors and styles, Jewell grapples with the desire to hold onto a moment with the knowledge that it has already passed. Souvenir embraces the possibility of metamorphosis while acknowledging the comforting haze of oblivion.
Of the 2025 Winter season, Fieldmouse Press’ executive editor, Rob Clough, says, “These books feature pitch-black humor and heartfelt emotions. Bread makes the reader feel for Audrey and root for her to find redemption as her struggle is depicted through swirling, twisting shapes. Carl will have the reader cringing and laughing as the poor monk endures the worst quest ever. Noah’s comic hits hard because the isolation of Blu will seem so familiar to so many. Jeff’s pitch-black, deadpan sense of humor is only heightened by his charmingly cartoony characters. Sara’s masterful ability to shift visual styles and tones is matched only by the eloquence of her prose. I am extraordinarily proud of these books and excited for people to read them.”
The Crowdfundr pre-order campaign runs from 03/24/25 to 4/24/25 and features multiple backer tiers featuring original art, short-run minicomics, and other draws for readers and retailers alike.
