Just over 6 months after their story ‘In the Night, Mountains Grew’ was released as part of the Broken Frontier Anthology, Marguerite Bennet (Bombshells, Insexts) and Varga Tomi are back at it with two brand new tales, ‘Koi’ and ‘Cider’, included along with their BF Anthology story, in a one-shot called Ghastly Tales due out on September 7.
In case you weren’t aware of this already, in addition to my duties as staff writer for Broken Frontier, I also run a publishing imprint named A Wave Blue World. We published the Broken Frontier Anthology as well as the Ghastly Tales one-shot. I don’t know if that makes me too much of an insider. Granted I can’t be impartial on my recommendation of this comic, but it does prove me the unique opportunity to offer you an exclusive inside-look to these terrifyingly twisted tales.
The opening story (featured on the cover) is called ‘Koi’. In feudal Japan, a scorned maiden consults the magical fish in a koi pond for a way to take revenge on the lord who did her wrong. This is the story that’s most likely to appeal to fans of Marguerite Bennett’s erotic horror series, Insexts.
The middle of the book re-presents ‘In the Night, Mountain Grew’ about an Alaskan ranger seeking new frontiers only to discover it may be more than she can handle.
And finally, in ‘Cider’ a family of bootleggers consult an old family recipe in order to keep the police from shutting down their operation.
In addition, the back of the comic features sketches and process shots for some pages and the cover image.
While Ghastly Tales will be available world-wide as a digital release on ComiXology, the print run has been limited to only 400 copies and will not be distributed through the direct market. I was able to work directly with some of the retailers who’ve supported AWBW in the past (mostly in Portland) to make it available in some U.S. shops. These retailers are Twilite Zone Comics in Maryland, Escape Pod Comics in New York, East Side Mags in New Jersey, Mission: Comics & Art in San Francisco and six locations in Portland, OR: Books with Pictures, Bridge City, Cosmic Monkey, Excalibur, and Floating World.
Copies are also available directly from A Wave Blue World’s website. This also includes the option to get signed copies by Marguerite Bennett and Varga Tomi which come with a certificate of authenticity and number to only 30 copies.
