The fourth Gosh! Comics and Broken Frontier Drink and Draw of 2019 is imminent! And once again we have a tiptop trio of small press artists on Wednesday April 24th joining us for our regular monthly meet-up, sponsored by Cass Art.
You can find us upstairs in The King’s Arms on Poland Street and, as ever, your co-hosts for the night are myself (Broken Frontier Editor-in-Chief Andy Oliver) and Gosh’s very own Nora Goldberg. The fun begins at 6.30pm at Gosh! on Berwick Street before we head off for our sketching and drinking antics at 7pm. Don’t forget you can join the official Facebook event here.
A quick intro to this month’s artists…
Barbawk (aka Abs Bailey) is one of this year’s Broken Frontier ‘Six Small Press Creators to Watch‘ and has contributed to Comic Book Slumber Party’s fantasy pastiche anthology Escape from Bitch Mountain (published by Avery Hill, below left). She has self-published the slice-of-life comics Swim about confronting our fears and Beyond Death (below right) on the aftermath of a difficult break-up. She will also be tabling at ELCAF this summer.
Molley May’s work has been published in Penguin Random House’s Ladybird Tales of Adventurous Girls. She has self-published the zine She Bangs the Drum about influential female musicians and her current comic Magpies exploring her “obsessive relationship” with the titular birds.
Shazleen Khan is another rising star on the UK indie scene. She has self-published a number of comics and her work has also been seen in the anthology We Shall Fight Until We Win published by 404 Ink and BHP Comics. She is currently posting the webcomic Buuza! (about “found family, diaspora and religion, set in an urban fantasy 90s middle east and central Asia”) here.
Join us on Wednesday April 24th, then, for another fun evening of drinking, drawing and comics camaraderie. We kick off at 6.30pm in Gosh with a chance to get hold of signed comics and books from all our featured creators before moving over to The King’s Arms for 7. We look forward to seeing you then!
