Amazing X-Men from Jason Aaron and Ed McGuinness
The biggest mainstream panel of SDCC Sunday probably was Marvel’s X-Men one, which saw the main X writers take the stage to discuss the upcoming Battle of the Atom event coinciding with the mutant’s 50th Anniversary.
The major announcement was Amazing X-Men, a new series by Jason Aaron and Ed McGuinness, in which Wolverine – leading yet another team – goes on a quest to bring back Nightcrawler and save him from Hell. Joining him on this mission are Iceman, Storm, Northstar, Beast and Firestar. [The Beat]
Joss Whedon Explains Choice of Ultron, No Hank Pym in Avengers 2
Following Saturday’s title reveal of Avengers 2, Marvel did a quick interview with Joss Whedon at the show discussing what fans can expect from this darker second epic.
Whedon said: “We’re doing our own version of the origin story of Ultron. In the origin story, there was Hank Pym, so a lot of people assumed that he will be in the mix. He’s not. We’re basically taking the things from the comics for the movies that we need and can use. A lot of stuff has to fall by the wayside.”
Watch the clip to hear the director explain more about why he wanted Ultron in the film, how come Hank Pym won’t be in it and Hawkeye getting a bigger role.
McNiven and Remender’s Uncanny Avengers Will Be Soaked in Blood
Steve McNiven will join Rick Remender on Uncanny Avengers as of November’s issue #14. In an interview on Comic Book Resources, the creative team spoke about their plans for the title, saying it’s a culmination point for both the Avengers and the X-Men.
Remender: “It’s the big payment to everything that’s been happening in the Marvel Universe with the X-Men and the Avengers for a long time now. It’s the ultimate price to be paid for quibbling, and having the total inability to overcome disagreements and disputes and unify as heroes. It occurred to me during the planning sessions for “Avengers Vs. X-Men” that our heroes are often disagreeable and less than heroic. That makes them relatable and human, which is also good. They all have different points of view and that leads them into conflict as it does with humans.”
“This is the moment of clarity for the X-Men and the Avengers — and that moment is going to be soaked in blood.” [Comic Book Resources]
