Press Release
One backpack, two boots, and the open road.
In the near future Poenee bids farewell and hits the road to explore the world by hacking rides on robotic freight trains. As a high tech hobo she soon discovers that getting on a train is the easy part.
Poenee steps boldly into the night and deep into the jungles of the hobo hackers, she Raukkus who becomes her travel companion and lover. Poenee and Raukkus survive encounters with robot police, android agents, feral humans, tornadoes, android police riots, and unseen digital foes. As they travel by hacking robotic freights they are simultaneously hacking the culture of a hyper techno society that exists everywhere and seeks to control everything, including their bodies and desires.
The concept of Hobo Fires grew from summers riding freight trains across the United States and from other summers building shanty boats and floating down the Mississippi, Ohio, and Missouri Rivers. Meeting hobos and river rats in railroad jungles and old water ways while simultaneously reading books about cosmology, plant identification, human evolution, science fiction, and comics, I was unknowingly compiling a framework for this graphic novel.
My work has been published by Microcosm Publishing: Unsinkable: How To Build Plywood Pontoons & Longtail Boat Motors Out Of Scrap (2012) is a combination photographic documentary and D.I.Y. boat building guide. Shut Up & Love The Rain (2010) and Awesome Future (2011) are comic books. I was the editor of a book of real stories about health called Alive With Vigor! (2014).
