TRAVEL ABROAD FOR A MURDER MYSTERY WITH “I AM THEIR SILENCE”
Arriving in stores Summer 2025
Dark Horse Books presents I Am Their Silence, a new murder mystery graphic novel from Eisner Award-nominated cartoonist Jordi Lafebre (Always Never, Glorious Summers). Written and illustrated by Lafebre, lettered by Cromatik, Ltd., and translated by Montana Kane (Always Never, Medea), this story tackles themes of mental health, trauma, and the complexities of family dynamics.
Eva is a brilliant psychiatrist, but when she finds the Monturos family patriarch dead the night before a party discussing the family’s future and their wine-making empire, Eva is catapulted into a web of intrigue and deception. With her name on the suspect list, Eva transforms into an amateur sleuth out of obsession more than self-defense.
Guided by the voices of her dead relatives, who seem to haunt her wherever she goes, Eva journeys through Barcelona to uncover the real killer, all while dealing with the Monturos family’s trouble and, seemingly, her own.
“As someone who once lived in Spain for a while, I love the setting of this GN, and I especially love how Jordi Lafebre makes you feel like you’re right there, walking the bustling streets of Barcelona alongside Eva,” said Kane. “As a translator, it is always a pleasure to work on a book with language that jumps off the page. And I am always especially thrilled to encounter female protagonists with a strong sense of humor and sharp wit, because ultimately, there don’t seem to be very many of them, unfortunately.
“I’ve translated over 370 comics and graphic novels, in just about every genre and style imaginable. And while I find something to appreciate about every book, there are some that are truly special to me and that really stand out. This is one of them. Jordi Lavefre has done it again!”
“Eva is poised to become the next Hercule Poirot or Sherlock Holmes,” added editor Konner Knudsen, “She is smart, sexy, funny, unapologetically mad, and guided by the wise voices of her dead relatives—who seem to watch and comment on everything happening around her. Although the title sounds serious, I Am Their Silence has the heart and comedy relief needed to deserve a place on the shelf of any fan of Knives Out or Glass Onion. Jordi Lafebre is a cartoonist to watch out for, delivering yet another genre defying comic—a Murder mystery that has heart, comedy, and a bit of spiciness to it.”
I Am Their Silence was originally published by Darguad in France, where it was a finalist for the Association of French-Language Comics (ACBD) Grand Critics Prize in 2024 and an Angoulême Official Crime Thriller Selection in 2024.
I Am Their Silence (hardcover, 112 pages, 7” x 10”) will be available wherever books are sold on July 1, 2025. It is now available to preorder at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Things From Another World, and your local comic shop and bookstore for $24.99.

Praise for Jordi Lafebre:
“Spanish comics maker Lafebre’s work is a spectacular visual feast, gorgeously detailed to every corner of every panel, meticulously hued in striking palettes that denote time and distance, gratifyingly replete with expressions that catch every emotion possible. The stunning architecture, the high seas, three widowed sisters and their croissants, a formula-laden blackboard, a virtual dance apart but oh so together—Lafebre ensures magic on every page.”—Booklist, starred review
“Always Never reads very much like a classic Will Eisner story—from the deep characterization to the bending of the comic medium.”—Fanbase Press
“Always Never is one of the loveliest graphic novels, and most unique love stories I’ve ever experienced.”—Novel Notions
“Always Never manages things that only the best love stories can–that only the best stories, period, can. Like the people we have loved, it too takes up residence in our hearts. It makes us consider our own loves, present or absent, and the contradictory long brevity of living.”—AIPT Comics
