We’ve had a longstanding relationship with comics community group LDComics for many years now with our own Andy Oliver having spoken at their events on multiple occasions and the first official announcement of our very first Broken Frontier Small Press Yearbook coming at one of their meetings way back in 2016. So it’s always great to hear about what they’re planning next to support the comics community. To mark their 15th birthday LDComics have announced an online comics fair to debut in 2025. Details in the press release below, including how to apply.
LDC is celebrating 15 years with an Online Comics Fair next year!
In 2009, Dr Nicola Streeten and Sarah Lightman launched Laydeez Do Comics “to champion comics work based on life narrative and the drama of the everyday. Streeten and Lightman shared an interest in comics and graphic novels that were not about superheroes, but were focused on the domestic and autobiographical.”
Since then, we’ve changed our name to LDComics, become a Community Interest Company, hosted an annual festival from 2018-2020 in conjunction with a prize for graphic novels in progress, set up a mentoring programme and residencies, delivered an international British Council project and delivered workshops and talks. Most importantly we have continued to host our monthly events hosting guests’ illustrated presentations, welcoming everyone to attend free of charge.
To commemorate our fifteenth anniversary, we’re hosting an Online Comics Fair, and we invite you to be a part of it. From now until 30 June 2024, you can submit your application for consideration to be included in our live online comics fair from 1-31 July 2025.
