Every few weeks we sift through all the dozens of crowdfunding communications we receive here at BF every week to bring you a handful of the more intriguing, exciting, experimental and daring uses of the form that we spot, along with some interesting campaigns we’ve found ourselves. These are comics that both fit the Broken Frontier coverage ethos and that we think deserve your support and backing!
Usually we look to push a few worthwhile projects your way in this Crowdfunding Corner section but every so often we spot something so deserving of your time that we run a Crowdfunding Corner Extra edition…
The Bike Force by Tony Esmond, Susie Gander and Dan Butcher
The who and what: An anthology based around the theme of ‘Strength’ the book is part of a campaign to get comic-making kits to children in hospitals. With a cover (and comic strip) by artist Ross Burt it also contains work by indie creators like Tony Esmond, Susie Gander, Dan Butcher, Kev Brett, Vincentius Talbot, Stefan Nymzo, T. Leal, Tom Curry, Simon Russell and Nick Prolix.
Ell and the Vile Alien by Kev Brett
What’s on offer: Apart from the usual digital and physical copies of the book you can also pledge at reward levels that will send comic-making kits like those pictured below to kids in hospital.
Why you should back it: For once I’m not sure I really need to provide a final summarising argument as to why this is a project worth your time! A wonderful initiative that uses comics in a truly positive and inspiring way on two distinct levels.
