This weekend sees a new small press event on the comics calendar as the Loogabarooga Comic Festival, held in association with Loogabarooga Book Festival and Loughborough Comic Con, debuts on Saturday October 21st in Loughborough Town Hall. Combining an exhibitors fair, panels and workshops it’s a celebration of the small press and self-publishing scenes organised by creator Drew Sumner/Drew Askew (Jupiter, Turbo Teens). It’s also a free event (with a nominal charge for workshops only).
You can find out more about the fair from the Facebook page here and the Twitter account here.
Exhibitors include some well known faces here at Broken Frontier including our 2016 Breakout Talent Award winner Rozi Hathaway (Cosmos & Other Stories, below).
Good Comics will be there, fresh from their successful set of releases at Thought Bubble that include the excellent SID (below) by 2017 Broken Frontier ‘Six to Watch’ creator Olivia Sullivan.
The dystopian cyberpunk world of Drugs & Wires will also be on show courtesy of exhibitor Cryoclaire (below).
As will Verity Hall’s work (Like a Shark in a Swimming Pool below)…
Other exhibitors will include Ryuuza, Frisson Comics, Geek Girl Comics, Toria McCallum, Morrighan Corbel, Bianca Illiescu, Jenny Mure, Dead Head Illustrations, Ryan Morrison, Jack Devereaux, Sammy Borras, Shane Melisse, Printed Paige, Esme Baran, Sally Jane Thompson, Lucy Galloway, Momo, Aleksis Shi, Pais, Cappitalette and Gustavo Vagas.
Small press events like this are the very lifeblood of local comics activism so if you’re in the Loughborough area this weekend make sure to give it your support!
