The Broken Frontier Anthology made its much anticipated print debut on March 23, 2016 at Floating World Comics in Portland, OR.
While the anthology had already debuted digitally on ComiXology the month before, this was the first time the full 312-page hardcover had ever been seen in its physical form. In fact, it just arrived from the printers the day before so even I only had a day to hold it in my own hands before the signing.
Floating World Comics was a retailer supporter of our Kickstarter campaign so it made perfect sense for them to host the release party. It also meant they had available some of the Kickstarter Exclusives such as the sketchbook and the print of Robbi Rodriguez’s cover.
Joining me for this signing was the creative team behind the story Flyer, Justin Zimmerman & Mike Lawrence, as well as cover artist, Robbi Rodriguez.
Robbi was the rockstar of the event, not just because of his high-profile work on Spider-Gwen, but because he spent the whole time signing and sketching for everyone who got the anthology. He signed books, prints and pretty much any other item people brought in. One hightlight was when he used white out to sketch on an old Collider poster (the Vertigo series that changed its name to FBP after the first issue).
Another perk of the event was that Nicole Kasten of Beer Connections set up a tasting of Sierra Nevada, providing both their pale ale and their summer brew Otra Vez.
Next stop on the #BFAnthology tour will be Emerald City Comic Con from April 7-10. We’ll be at booth #116 and in addition to Robbi, Justin and I, we’ll also have the amazing Steve Orlando and Alison Sampson at the booth to sign copies of the anthology!
