Pride Month is a big deal every year here at Broken Frontier. Last year at BF we managed to get a review, interview, feature or creator commentary up every single weekday to celebrate our LGBTQIA+ comics community. You can look back on it all in one place here. There’s some amazing work spotlighted!
This year we want to go bigger and better, and provide even more LGBTQIA+ comics content across June. To open that up, and so that we include a variety of voices from outside the Broken Frontier team, we are making a call today to those queer artists who may be interested in our ever popular Inside Look creator commentaries to run in Pride Month.
In 2023 we ran some excellent Pride Month-related Inside Looks, including Emma Oosterhous and Ollie Hicks on Grand Slam Romance and Cat Laird on My Monstrous Ex-Girlfriends.
We’re looking for queer creators who want to talk about their LGBTQIA+ comics, graphic novels and graphic memoirs, especially those who have brought their own lived experiences to the page. And if your an anthology publisher please also get in touch. There are ways in which we can tailor this feature to you too.
Here’s the lowdown..
What are Inside Looks at Broken Frontier?
Inside Look is our creator commentary feature where writers/artists can discuss their creative process and behind-the-scenes details of their comics with reference to specific pages or images. Here are some good examples.
How can I take part?
E-mail our Andy Oliver first to signal your interest. His e-mail details are here.
What do I need to provide in terms of word count?
We suggest 100-200 words per image/page and 4-6 images/pages. You are, of course, welcome to write more.
Can I include other material in the discussion of my work?
Certainly. In addition to pages from their comics past contributors have included such things as script breakdowns, sketchbook roughs, reference photos, process videos and related ephemera.
While this may seem an early shout-out we want to make sure we can work well in advance to give as many people as possible an opportunity to talk about their work. We are currently a tiny team of four and our event weeks/months take immense planning so that’s why we are preparing for June now.
We look forward to hearing from you!
