Our Crowdfunding Corner feature returns again today as we continue to once again actively spotlight the more intriguing, exciting, experimental and daring uses of the form that we spot on the crowdfunding circuit. These are comics that both fit the Broken Frontier coverage ethos and that we think deserve your support and backing! Today’s subject is “autistic comic anthology” Sensory: Life on the Spectrum…
Sensory: Life on the Spectrum
Art by Bex
The who and what: Recently at Broken Frontier we ran a piece by cartoonist Bex/Schnumn on the #ASDComicTakeover on Twitter, an initiative tying into Autism Acceptance Month where artists posted short comic strips about their own lived experiences with autism. That hashtag has evolved into an anthology collection Sensory: Life on the Spectrum, compiling comics from over 30 creators. Among its multiple aims the project looks to “raise awareness about autism and dispel some of the stigma surrounding it.”

What’s on offer: There’s the standard print and digital options but there’s also a large number of merchandise offers across tiers including stickers, a pin, prints, colouring book and t-shirt options. And nearer the top end of the rewards is the chance to get yourself drawn into the book as a background character.
Why you should back it: If you followed the #ASDComicTakeover event on Twitter you will be aware of the range of life experiences and perspectives on autism that were covered across the month of posting. We all know how powerfully empathetic a tool comics are in connecting readers with lived experience through their unique visual language. This anthology looks to use that link to not just bring its creators’ stories to wider audiences, but also to inform, explain, support and facilitate conversation. If you want more reasons to give it your backing check out some of the art we ran here at Broken Frontier last month!
