Last Saturday, August 31st, saw Small Press Day return to venues across the UK and Ireland with its ninth edition, as over 100 self-published artists grabbed the opportunity to sign their work and chat with readers new and old. Founded by cartoonist David Ziggy Greene (Jam Bookshop) in 2016 as an event designed to bring together shops, small press creators and readers, Small Press Day was co-organised this year by original team members Amneet Johal of the Alternative Press and Andy Oliver of Broken Frontier (that’s me!), alongside newcomer to the SPD crew Ellie Egleton (Power Punch Boot Camp).
Every year at Broken Frontier we like to run a photo round-up of SPD events for posterity and we have some great images below showing some highlights from the day. We’d like to host a lot more here though so there’s a permanent record of this year’s fun that is more reflective of the national face of Small Press Day and less London-centric. So please, if you are a store, an attendee artist or a reader who was at events outside of London, Lancaster and Glasgow and have some pictures to share then do get in contact with our Andy Oliver (that’s me again!) at the e-mail address here. We’d love to hear from you.
Here’s to Small Press Day 2025 – the landmark 10th SPD!
