The genius of French artist Tardi is celebrated this week at Comica Festival with two events. On Monday night (10 November), Pat Mills, writer of the classic Charley’s War, will be in Comica Conversation with the great man himself at Foyles as the pair commemorate 100 years since the beginning of the First World War. Tardi’s classic It Was the War of the Trenches and Goddamn this War!, both published by Fantagraphics, will be discussed in a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see these two committed anti-war creators on a stage together in London.
Then on Tuesday night (11 November) at the Institut Francais in Kensington Tardi and singer-songwriter Dominque Grange will be presenting ‘Putain de Guerre!’ (Goddamn this War!) – their poignant performance piece focusing on mixing songs, readings and images to evoke the days of the Great War. Tickets for the Comica Conversation between Pat Mills and Tardi are available from the Comica site here. You can also still book for ‘Putain de Guerre!’ at the Institut Francais here.
